Departments

The Forum currently has six Departments: Art, Culinary, Fashion and Style, Linked, Literary, and Music to give members opportunities to focus on areas of interest.

Art

The Art Department of the Dallas Woman’s Forum holds its meetings at The Alexander Mansion. The Art Department members plan events and visits to world renowned art galleries in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, such as a visit to the Chihuly art glass exhibit at the Arboretum and private tours at the Meadows Museum, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Kimball Art Museum.

The Art Department is responsible for acquisition, maintenance, and restoration of the collection of Early Texas Art owned by the Forum. The Forum began holding annual juried art shows during the 1911-1912 year, and in 1926-1927, purchased two paintings from the show. This became an annual tradition that continued into the 1930’s.

As a result, the Forum owns a small collection of more than twenty-four paintings by Texas artists such as Franz Strahalm, Jessie Palmer, and Frank Klepper. There are also a few more recent pieces that have been donated to the Forum over the years. One of these paintings is “Floral Still Life with Bowl,” by Adele Brunet (Am. 1871-1963), shown here.

The department has sponsored Antiques at the Alexander featuring lectures by local antique experts, informal appraisals, and a raffle as one of their most successful events.

Culinary

The Culinary Department of the Dallas Woman’s Forum celebrates and educates its members on cuisine and wine.

The department formed in 2011 with A Wine Around the World wine tasting as the inaugural event. The Culinary Department previously sponsored the Bistro during Christmas at The Alexander.

We welcome event ideas from our members and can help facilitate activities to serve our members’ interests.

Fashion and Style

The Fashion and Style Department is dedicated to sharing vintage fashion and women’s style through the years. Our Fashion and Style Department members curate personal collections of authentic articles of clothing, hats, shoes, and jewelry. Many have graciously shared their beautiful vintage gowns and suits at Forum events and fashion shows.

Literary

The purpose of the Literary Department is to read, enjoy, and discuss literature. Members suggest books of interest to highlight at each gathering. The group meets each month at a local restaurant for lunch and fun, casual discussions.
