The Art Department

The Art Department of the Dallas Woman’s Forum is responsible for the collection of Early Texas Art owned by the Forum. The Forum held the first art show during the 1911-1912 year, and in 1926-1927, purchased two paintings from the show.

This became an annual tradition that continued into the 1930′s. As a result, the Forum owns more than twenty-four paintings by Texas artists, most from the 1920′s and 1930′s. There are also a few more recent pieces that have been donated to the Forum over the years. One of these paintings is shown at right: “Floral Still Life with Bowl,” by Adele Brunet (Am. 1871-1963).

Last season’s most successful event, ”Antiques at the Alexander,” will be repeated this season on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

“Antiques at the Alexander.” the most successful event of last season, will be repeated this season on Saturday, April 27, 2013, featuring lectures, informal appraisals, and a Raffle. We hope you will join us for this exciting event! In addition we are planning the revival of the “Dallas Woman’s Forum Art Show” in the fall of 2013.

Art Department Meetings are held at the Alexander Mansion on the first Monday of every month, September through May, except for the month of December when we all pitch in to help with the Holiday Home Tour & Holiday Tea. The Art Department members plan, implement and staff our events, and also enjoy spontaneous art-related events like our visit to the Chihuly art glass exhibit at the Arboretum this summer.

Please join us!
