The Music Department

The Music Department’s purpose is to raise money in order to purchase musical instruments and other necessities for the music program at the Birdie Alexander Elementary School.  So far we have been able to provide the school with 12 violins, 6 violas and 8 cellos for the 4-6thgraders in addition to various percussion instruments for the younger children.  We do this by sponsoring two programs during the year.  The first, in the Fall, is a musical soiree in an intimate setting.  The second is in the Spring, a variety show performed in a Cabaret-like setting.  Both programs are presented in the Alexander Mansion.

Mitta Angell, Chairman of the Music Department, has been a member of the viola section of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for longer than she cares to mention.  She is also a pianist and teaches viola and piano in her home.

Other members of the Music Department are:
Virginia Cook, Gloria Goodwin, Maria Hasbany, Marion Mills, Betty Knapp, Sally Molinari, Suzanne Palmlund, Glenna Tate, Nelda Washington (the music coordinator at the Birdie Alexander Elementary School) Marilyn Watson and Stephanie Woodruff.
